Tobi & Daddy Little Lessons, Big Love
Tobi & Daddy Little Lessons, Big Love
Dear Tobi, I promised to teach you everything I know. I didn't know how much you would teach me.
The day you were born, I made you a promise: I would teach you everything I know.
So here they are, Tobi. Our little lessons.
I'm teaching you to fix a wobbly chair.
Really, I'm teaching you that broken things can be mended, with patience and a little glue.
I'm teaching you my secret Saturday jollof.
Really, I'm teaching you that good things take time. (And that a little pepper never hurt anyone.)
I'm teaching you to kick a ball straight.
Really, I'm teaching you to get back up every time you fall, and to cheer just as loudly when your friends score.
I'm teaching you to plant tomato seeds.
Really, I'm teaching you that small things grow big when you care for them every single day.
I'm teaching you to build a robot.
Really, I'm teaching you that if you can imagine it, you can make it.
I'm teaching you to always visit Grandma.
Really, I'm teaching you that family is home, wherever we are in the world.
One day, I was late for your school play. I missed your big line.
So I'm teaching you the hardest lesson: strong people say sorry. I'm sorry. Thank you for forgiving me.
When the thunder roared, you held on tight.
I'm teaching you that being brave doesn't mean you're never scared. It means you're never alone.
I'm teaching you my best dance moves.
Really, I'm teaching you never to be too shy to shine. (Even if everybody laughs. Especially then.)
But some days, you're the teacher.
You teach me to slow down, to laugh at silly things, and to find elephants in the clouds.
One day you'll know all my lessons by heart, and you'll teach them to someone you love.
But the first lesson, the one that matters most? You are loved, Tobi. Always. Love, Daddy
Fixing chairs, cooking jollof, building robots, saying sorry: every little lesson Daddy teaches Tobi is really one big one. You are loved.
