Tobi & Mummy All the People You Will Be
Tobi & Mummy All the People You Will Be
Dear Tobi, I chose your name before I knew you. Now I can't imagine you being anyone else.
Tonight, as your eyes grow heavy, I sit beside you and wonder about all the people you will be.
Maybe you'll be a doctor with gentle hands, making scared people feel brave.
You already know how to listen to my heart.
Maybe you'll build bridges and towers that reach up and touch the clouds.
You already build me a new city every Saturday morning.
Maybe you'll fly planes across the world, to places I have only dreamed of.
And I'll be the one waving at every plane that passes.
Maybe you'll sing to stadiums full of cheering people.
But I was your first fan, and I will be your loudest.
Maybe you'll be a teacher who makes hard things feel easy.
Maybe you'll be a champion, faster than anyone has ever been.
Win or lose, I'll be shouting your name.
Maybe you'll discover something nobody in the whole world has ever seen.
Maybe you'll lead people and help change the world.
You already know the most important thing: always share your last puff-puff.
Whoever you become, there will be hard days too. Days you fall. Days you cry.
And on those days, I will always be right here.
I don't mind what you become. I only wish that you'll be kind, and brave, and happy, and that you'll always know your way home.
One day you'll be all of these things, and more. But tonight, you are just small enough to hold, and I am the luckiest Mummy in the world.
A doctor, a builder, a pilot, a star: whoever Tobi becomes, Mummy will be right there, cheering the loudest.
